New Manga Series- Orange Crows

My latest just-starting-series read: Orange Crows Vol. 1 by James Perry and Ryo Kawakami. After being exiled to a forbidden wasteland full of flesh eating fairies (I'm so there!) for 5 years, Cierra comes back to "civilization" and everything's completely different. She gets roped into the Special Witch and Warlock Squadron- a bunch of powerful albeit neurotic peace keeper types. So she's dealing with major social upheavals while hiding a yet to be explained crazy and potentially deadly power within herself.
Perry's writing can go either way- it's too soon to tell. Kawakami’s art is well defined and minimalistic. I love page after page of deep and complicated drawings, (Kaori Yuki! Yay!) but sometimes I have NO idea what's going on. In this case, simplistic art makes for easy-to-follow story lines and characters. The sound effects are in kanji without a translation, which is fairly standard for Tokyopop titles, making for severe confusion in several parts. I'll definately keep my eyes peeled for #2- then we'll see if it's a "keep" or "toss".
